Street Smart City
Smart cities are the talk of the day and Chennai seems to be catching up to the same. Chennai is already a well established city with many commercial and residential flats in Chennai. The infrastructure set up is also preset but there is lot of scope for development.
Though the government has many ideas in mind, they have approached the residents of Chennai to come forward with ideas for making Chennai a smart city. The websites (mygov.ingroup-issue and chennai-global-smart-city-making), launched by the Union government to ensure participation of citizens in the project, has received nearly 100 suggestions so far.
T. Nagar being the commercial hub is the forerunner on the list of areas to be revamped followed by KK Nagar. The corporation is considering two major projects in T Nagar -a grade separator connecting Anna Salai and Mahalingapuram by integrating Usman Road flyovers, and a multi level car parking facility. However, the move to build flyovers is likely to be turned down as the Centre is keen to promote non-motorized transport.
People feel that making Chennai a smart city is a great step towards increasing the standard of living of the people. The high quality mass rapid transit, safe footpaths and cycle tracks which have been proposed might make our everyday lives easier and better. A separate cyclist’s path has also come up on the list of suggestions with the number of cyclists in the city on increase.
A major number of people also feel that steps should be taken to enhance the water bodies in the city like Adyar, Cooum, Buckingham Canal and Otteri Nullah which will provide a clean water supply in the city. A city with a clean river running through it is considered the best place possible to live in.
Many top builders in Chennai are planning commercial and residential projects with futuristic demand in mind.If all the positive ideas are put in place and legal actions are taken, surely Chennai will become a smart city in no time!
